Final Blog Post- Class Summary

Hey everyone!

I must say this class has been fun and I learned alot of cool new things. We mostly covered Second Life and Sketchup, explored some games along the way, some good some bad (Runescape uggh) but it was interesting to see the computer graphics and complex 3d tools that were used to make them.

The neatest thing I thought we did that I might actually go back and play with was the facegen tool from our last assignment, that was awesome! Sketchup was cool too! Must be an awesome tool for architects to use.

This class was super convient because its was an Immersive education class- learn more at http://www.immersiveeducation.org/ and when the class started I had just had surgery the weekbefore, because I broke my ankle in three places. I was unable to drive to Boston College or anywhere for that matter for 2 months and having class online for the semester was a lifesaver!

I think this immersiveeducation way of classes is great and im glad that Boston College participates in it. http://www.bc.edu/ Thanks Professor Walsh for another fabo and fun class!

Happy Holidays!!

VRML Character and Facegen

Here is how I messed up at first loading Johns face into facegen. After this I realized that you have to line up the green points with Johns face exactally the same as the guys face who they show.
After I got Johns face evenly aligned with the facegen model, I made some modifications to him. Here I used the eye dropper tool to fix blemishes and the smudge tool to botox foreheard but it got a little bad looking opps. Touch-ups were going good until I screwed up his forehead.

Filled in Johns eyes with skin color to make him look wierd.

above is a mix of many expressions using the morph feature on facegen

My first attempt to get Johns face onto the face didn't work because I didn't line his points up right.
First attempt at playing around with facegen using expressions below is angry face above is surprised.

Uploading Johns face into facegen now making changes to expression this one is smile.

Playing with facial features in facegen

Johns face before touch-ups this is before I figured out how to get his hace on the head. But my touchup job is better on this one than the last one I did on the head in facegen.

I opened the photo of Johns face in Gimp shop and made some touch-ups to his skin. First I used the eye dropper tool to select color from his face and clear up some blemishes. Then I used the smudge tool to move color over his 5 o'clock shadow to give him a clean shave look. Then I got to work on in between his eyebrows, the skin was looking shiny so I used smudge tool again to move better color over the area to look less shiny. Now John looks fabo, if only he would open his eyes. Ha!

Lion- in Class and homework

This is what the lion is supposed to look like.

My attempt during classtime

Brutal

Side view of the real lion

Seeing how it was made

Re-attempt after more videos and some pointers

Adding color

Figured out how to make components to make they eyes by duplication. This was by far the most time consuming assignment so far. All in all I made major improvements from my in class brutally lame lion to this one. Houses in sketchup are way easier!
