Building in Sketchup

My finished house!

Sketchup took me quite a while to get used to, but I think it is better for building than SL, once I got the hang of it anyway. I stared off trying to draw lines to make a floor and walls for my house thinking I could use push pull to add windows later. But if the lines are not lined up perfectly you are unable to push pull. I finally got the hang of it. I used the paint function to add different textures to my house walls, floor, exterior and roof. This was so cool.

After adding windows and roofing, I added a patio and a walkway, by now im getting good at push pull and using it for everything! Even made a snazzy arched window using arc function.

I made a glass wall as part of the side of my roof, but later decided it didn't look as fabo as I thought, so I changed interior to brick and exterior to Spanish tile. Walls are dark salmon, like my real house.
I added hardwood flooring and tile for the kitchen area, and I have not idea how to build furniture, but I might have to go back and check it out after.

I added glass in the windows using the paint function and transparency, this looks awesome! Then I decided that skylights would look great so i added some with push pull then paint again.

Later while playing around with the functions of the camera, I was able to add shading, looks really neat like a sunrise or sunset !

All in all this application was pretty cool and user friendly I would like to see more options for textures, I wanted my house to be white brick with the Spanish tile roof and a patio with bricking to match would have been better, but I guess everything cant match all the time. Sketchup was very time consuming but fun! I spent all day Wednesday on my house. But I would like to add furniture or make a more complex house maybe later. Only if I could bring my awesome furniture from building in SL then my house would be rocking!
